The Socialist Janata (Democratic), a partner in the ruling Congress-led United Democratic Front in Kerala, on Friday, demanded that the Centre give up its decision to allow 51 per cent Foreign Direct Investment in multi-brand retail. “This decision is unfortunate as this will open up our vibrant domestic market to multinational giants in the retail sector,” SJ(D) senior vice-president Varughese George said in a statement here. Increasing FDI in retail would harm six crore traders in the country, he said, adding his party would join the movement against the decision. — PTI
