Life-saving drugs at affordable rates to indigent patients

Minister for Health V.S. Sivakumar will formally inaugurate the Karunya Community Pharmacy at the Government Medical College Hospital here on Thursday.

In a release issued here on Wednesday, Biju Prabhakar, Managing Director, Kerala Medical Services Corporation Ltd. (KMSCL), said the next Karunya pharmacy outlet in the district would be opened at Vadakara soon.

The State government was making available life-saving drugs at reduced rates to patients in the economically weaker sections through KMSCL.

Stating that the functioning of the pharmacy chain was being expanded to more regions, Mr. Prabhakar said Karunya Pharmacy outlets were already functioning at the Government Medical Colleges in Thiruvananthapuram and Thrissur.

The rates of certain important medicines at Karunya outlets, which functioned round-the-clock, were 90 per cent less than the market rate.

A. Pradeepkumar, MLA, will preside over the inaugural ceremony at the medical college at 5 p.m.
