KALPETTA: A three-day site inspection for resettlement of landless tribal families in Wayanad district, under the aegis of Tribal Resettlement Development Mission (TRDM), will begin in Mananthavadi taluk on May 20.

District Collector T. Bhaskaran told The Hindu on Friday that the State government had allotted Rs.50 crore to purchase 1,000 acres of land to resettle the landless tribal families in the district.

Mr. Bhaskaran said 54 applicants had expressed their willingness to sell their 1,895 acres of land in different parts of the district, including 45 plots in Mananthavadi taluk, five plots in Vythiri taluk and four plots in Sulthan Bathery taluk.

Three squads have been constituted for the site inspection. The squads, including TRDM officials, will verify the documents of each plots, he added. The suitable sites will be selected at the next TRDM meeting after the site inspection to distribute 50 cents of land to each family, Mr. Bhaskaran said.
