PALAKKAD: Union Minister of State for Environment and Forests Jairam Ramesh will inaugurate the 25th anniversary celebrations of the Silent Valley National Park, one of the few remaining rainforests in the country, at Mukkali on November 16. Forest Minister Benoy Viswom will preside over the function.

Those who were in the forefront of the struggle to protect the Silent Valley, such as poets O.N.V. Kurup and Sugathakumari, environmentalist M.K. Prasad, mediapersons P. Govinda Pillai and Achuth Warrier, and others will be felicitated at the function.

The foundations of an interpretation centre will be laid at Mukkali on the occasion.

A postal stamp on the Silent Valley National Park will also be released.
