PALAKKAD: The 20th anniversary of the declaration of the Silent Valley rainforests as a National Park will be celebrated on January 7 with lectures and presentations.

The celebrations will be inaugurated at Government Victoria College by Lalitha Vijayan, Director, Salim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History (SACON). A lecture on `Biodiversity of Silent Valley and the story of the struggle' will be delivered by V.S. Vijayan, former Director of SACON. Tony Thomas of One Earth One Life will make a power-point presentation on `Silent Valley today.' It will be followed by a discussion on `Formation of an action plan for Silent Valley National Park.''

The decennial celebrations are being organised by the postgraduate Department of Botany, Government Victoria College here, the Jana Jagratha and One Earth One Life.
