KANNUR: The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has decided to take follow-up action on eight of the total 22 petitions that came up before it at a sitting here on Friday.

The sitting was held by SHRC member S. Varghese at the Government Guest House here.

A complaint by a person from Vayathur alleging that he had been illegally detained and beaten up by the Koothuparamba police was referredr to the SHRC Inspector-General for action. The Commission also decided to take action on a complaint of illegal detention against the Sub-Inspector at Kannavam police station.

The SI would be asked to appear before the commission.
