Postal stamp to be released in memory of IUML leader
: The State committee of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) will observe the first death anniversary of IUML leader Panakkad Syed Mohammedali Shihab Thangal with a number of programmes. A memorial meet in connection with the observance will be held at the Tagore Centenary Hall on August 4.
Writer M.T. Vasudevan Nair will release a special memoir on Shihab Thangal at the function. Union Minister of State for Railways E. Ahamed, IUML State president Panakkad Hyderali Shihab Thangal, general secretary P.K. Kunhalikutty and Communist Party of India (Marxist) State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan, among others, will attend the meet.
A seminar paying tribute to the late leader will be held on Wednesday evening.
Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy, writers U.A. Khader and K.P. Ramanunni will address the function.
Office-bearers of the IUML said in a press release here on Saturday that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh would release a postal stamp, brought out in memory of Panakkad Syed Mohammedali Shihab Thangal, at a function to be held in New Delhi on Monday. The programme would be held at the residence the Prime Minister, they said.
Chairperson of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Sonia Gandhi, Union Minister of Telecom A. Raja, Union Minister of State for Railways E. Ahamed and leaders of the IUML from Kerala and other States would attend the function.
The release of the memorial stamp in Kerala would be held at another function on August 4, the organisers said.
