KANNUR: A self-help group (SHG), comprising former trainees of the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in the district, has launched multiple production-cum-marketing units at Madakkadu in the Chapparappadavu panchayat here. The SHG, christened Jai Ho, includes mushroom production units with a capacity to produce 20 kg a day, Japanese quail production unit which produces 400 eggs per day and a vermi-compost unit. KVK officials said that the units, which were housed in the building of the Madakkadu Rubber Producers Society, had received loan from North Malabar Gramin Bank. The units were functioning under the technical guidance and supervision of the KVK, they said.

President of the SHG P.M. Gopinathan Nair said the SHG would submit projects to the District Horticulture Mission to start a mushroom spawn production unit and to expand the vermi-compost unit. Jai Ho was formally inaugurated by M. K. Sheela, KAU director, at a function presided over by KVK head K. Abdul Kareem.
