Chief Minister Oommen Chandy’s economic adviser Shafi Mather has resigned.

In a news release here on Thursday, Mr. Mather said he had submitted his resignation to the Chief Minister on Sunday and that it was accepted by him on Thursday.

Mr. Mather said he had decided to put in his papers in the light of a complaint from his brother Raffi Mather and his wife Reshma Raffi Mather accusing him of having misused his official position to harass them.

Mr. Mather said the Chief Minister had told him on Sunday about the receipt of the complaint from his brother and sister-in-law.

He denied having spoken to anyone in government about any matter pertaining to his family, but said he considered it ‘inappropriate’ to continue in office in the light of the formal complaint against him from his brother and sister-in-law.
