PALAKKAD: State President of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) K. Muraleedharan has demanded that the State government send an all-party delegation to the Centre to apprise it about the crop loss in the unseasonal rain in the State and seek adequate compensation for farmers.

Talking to mediapersons here on Wednesday, the NCP leader said the all-party delegation should meet the Prime Minister, Finance Minister and Agriculture Minister.

He has also urged the government to change some of the existing guidelines on the compensation paid for damage of crops. As per the existing rules, the farmers do not get even one-third of the total loss as compensation. The State government should urge the Union government to change the existing rules on compensation, he said.

Mr. Muraleedharan said the two-day State conference of the NCP would be inaugurated at Thrissur by party all-India president Sharad Pawar on April 25.
