THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Principal Secretary to Prime Minister T.K.A. Nair has stressed the need for selfless service for the uplift of the underprivileged sections of society.
He was speaking after inaugurating a free education project launched by the Sri Sathya Sai Orphanage Trust at the Sai Gramam, Thonnakkal near here on Sunday.
Uplok Ayukta and Trust chairman N. Krishnan Nair presided over the inaugural function. Agricultural Production Commissioner K. Jayakumar, Trust executive director Anandakumar and vice-chairman K. Gopakumaran Nair also addressed the gathering.
The free education project involves the establishment of a school on the Sai Gramam campus this academic year. Children in the age group 4-5 years will be admitted in the Bala Bhavan while those who have completed five years of age will be given admission to class 1.
Explaining the proposed education system to be followed by the institution, Mr. Gopakumaran Nair said the syllabus would be designed to identify and nurture talent in children and equip them to discriminate between good and bad and evil and virtue. He said it would focus on imparting cultural values and moulding the students into good citizens.
