District panchayat president S. Jayamohan has said that steps will be taken to extend the Seethalayam gender-based programme for women healthcare to the block panchayat levels in the district.

He said the measure is part of the steps being taken to ensure that more women in the district gets covered by the Seethalayam programme promoted jointly by the District panchayat and the Homeopathy department to empower women’s mental, physical and social health.

Mr. Jayamohan was inaugurating an awareness seminar on the Seethalayam programme organised by the Homeopathy department here on Tuesday. The Health Standing Committee chairman of the District panchayat, C.P. Sudheesh Kumar presided over the inaugural function. There was a session in which the participants were given a detailed briefing on the programme and also a review on the progress of the programme in the district.

The seminar was addressed by the chairman of the District Panchayat’s Development Standing Committee, Biju Mathew, the District Medical Officer (Homeo), V.K. Priyadarshini, homeo doctor, K. Jamuna, the former District Panchayat president, R. Gopalakirshna Pillai and the District Panchayat secretary, K. Anil Kumar.

The main aim of the Seethalayam project is to provide aid for women who suffer due to various problems in society.

A statement in this connection said that a good number of women are facing physical and mental torture at home and outside.

Increasing incidence of suicidal tendencies in women is mainly attributed to family problems, mental illness, physical illness and financial problems. Dr. Priyadarshini said that homoeopathy can alleviate mental aberrations and suicidal tendencies without any ill-effects or financial burden..
