Food and Civil Supplies Minister C. Divakaran will give away prizes to the winners of various competitions held in connection with the Flower Show and Aquarium Show 2011 on January 15.

Government Secretariat, Thiruvananthapuram, bagged the annual Flower Show Challenge Trophy this year.

The secretariat team also won the Janaki Memorial Challenge Trophy for best flower display as well as the rolling trophy for Dalia and other flowering plants presentation, a statement released by the Flower Show organising committee said.

Satheesh of Ayilyam Gardens, Oroottambalam, bagged the Krishnan Nair and Sons' Rolling Trophy for exhibition of bonsai plants. Saraswathy Varma of ‘Sreerenjini', Devaswom Board, won the HAK Rolling Trophy for presentation of rose flowers in B category.

In the C-category of rose plants presentation competition, Hemalatha Ramakrishnan of ‘Priya Roses' scored the highest point winning the Dr. C.O. Karunakaran Memorial Trophy.

In the flower arrangement competitions, Rekha S of Rishimangalam won the first prize in rose flower arrangement category. Mini Mathew of Nalanchira won the first prize in shallow container flower arrangement competition and floating arrangement competition.

Elizabeth Mary of Nalanchira and Rakhi Alex of Poojappura won prizes for the dry arrangement event. Rishika of Poojappura bagged the first prize in the flower arrangement competition for children below 10 years of age.

Painting contests

The Flower Show and Aquarium Show organising committee in association with Chithrakala Sanghom had also conducted painting competitions for school students in connection with the flower show.

A. Maheedar of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Pattom, won the first prize in the Lower Primary section event. V.S. Sandra of Nirmala Bhavan, Kowdiar, and Ashok K. Anil of Vishwabharathi School, Neyyattinkara, won the second and third places, respectively, in this section.

In the Upper Primary section, Vinod M of GHSS Kamaleswaram bagged the first prize while Soumya V.N. of Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan, Kodunganoor, and Shikha Sivaraman of St. Mary's Pattom, bagged the second and third prizes, respectively.

Akhil Murali of St. Shanthal HSS, Nettayam, bagged the top slot in the high school section event. Shilpa Sivaraman of St. Mary's Pattom won the second place and Anjana Mahesh of Holy Angels Nanthancode won the third prize in this category.

Forest flowers

The exhibition of forest flowers arranged in a special pavilion at the flower show was the crowd puller on Thursday, the statement said.
