: The Government Higher Secondary School, Venjaramoodu, was found vandalised by miscreants on Saturday.

Teachers who arrived at the school on Saturday morning found the window panes smashed and broken flower pots, said C. Saji Kumar, a teacher at the school.

“Many classrooms were littered with waste paper and alcohol bottles. The pipelines were broken. The miscreants also broke some benches and chairs. A similar incident had taken place on New Year’s Eve and we had complained to the police. However no action was taken”, added Mr. Kumar.

According to the police, the incident could be due to enmity towards the management or certain contractors who are in charge of ongoing construction work at the school. The police have registered a case and the school authorities have been instructed to hand over the keys to the police after school hours.

Interestingly, the school is situated at the busy Venjaramoodu junction and the local police station is merely 50 metres from the school. The students and teachers had reported about similar incidents in the past and this was the third such incident in one year. The Kerala Primary and Secondary Teachers' Union has requested the authorities concerned to provide security arrangements in all schools to prevent such problems.
