KANNUR: A government high school at Payyannur is organising a three-day ‘Shakespeare Festival’ as part of a study activity based on Shakespeare’s work and life.

Organisers said the students of Government High School, Vellur, would stage ‘The Merchant of Venice,’ ‘Othello’ and ‘The Tempest’ during the three-day festival beginning at the school on January 4.

The event would also include the staging of ‘Macbeth’ and ‘Julius Caesar’ by a Palakkad-based theatre troupe.

Puppet theatre

A puppet theatre show based on scenes from well-known plays by Shakespeare would be held.

Scenes from movies based on Shakesepare’s plays would also be screened, they said.

The festival would include programmes on Shakespeare’s sonnets and on teaching of Shakespeare.

The event would be inaugurated by film director Renjith. The valedictory session would be inaugurated by P. Karunakaran, MP, on January 6, the organisers said.
