PATHANAMTHITTA: The Cooperation Department would implement a project to bring down the hefty arrears pending with various cooperative institutions across the State, said Cooperation Minister G. Sudhakaran here on Monday.
He was inaugurating a State-level arrear-clearance drive launched by the department at Thiruvalla.
According to the Minister, 90 per cent of the deposits at various cooperative institutions in the State had been utilised for disbursing credit to the common people.
He said the government had implemented a series of projects to strengthen the cooperative sector.
The total deposit at various cooperative institutions had risen to Rs.56,000 crore from Rs.20,000 crore.
The arrear-clearance drive held in 2008 and 2009 could mobilise Rs.2362.71 crore, he said.
Joseph M. Puthusserry, MLA, presided over the function. Anto Antony, MP; Cherian Polachirackal, municipal chairman; Rani George, Registrar of Cooperative Societies, and R. Sanalkumar, District Cooperative Bankpresident, also spoke at the function.
