School students in Kozhikode City had a novel experience on Children's Day this year. They received a rose each, reminding them of the buttonhole Pandit Nehru wore and the flower that has come to be associated with him.

As many as 5,000 - odd students of different schools were given a rose that symbolised friendship and love, says M. Surendran, secretary, Kozhikode Horticultural Developmental Society, and coordinator of the Rose Flower Show. Roses that conjured up pictures in different contexts, and known by different names, fragrances and colours were exhibited at the show organised to coincide with Children's Day.
