THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The SAY (Save a year) examination for SSLC students will be held at designated examination centres in 36 educational districts from June 22 to 26. It is meant for students who appeared for the examination held this year. The students of the old scheme who lost any one subject and of the new scheme who could not get minimum grade (D+) for any two papers can appear for the exam.

In the case of the old scheme (based on syllabus of 2003-04) the following categories of students can appear for the SAY examination those who could not get subject minimum for any one subject (maximum of two papers); those who could not get group minimum (subject to the condition that they should have scored a minimum of 93 marks for subject group (B Group) in order to appear for any subject in language group (A Group). They should have 63 marks in A Group to appear for B group papers.The candidate can, if he wishes, limit his appearance to one paper of the subject. The students will not be allowed to appear for one paper each in two subjects. Those who are appearing for science subjects will have to limit their appearance to two papers and third language to one paper. Those who could not get subject minimum in more than one subject will not be allowed to appear for the SAY. Even after applying to appear for two papers in a subject, the candidate can opt to appearance for one paper.

In the case of the new scheme (Grading system), only those who secured grades below D+ for two papers in any subject, thereby not qualifying for higher education, will be able to take the SAY examination.

Those who could not appear for two papers in the SSLC examination due to valid reasons can also appear for those papers. In the case of the IT examination, the SAY will be limited to the theory part.

The fee for appearing for the SAY under both the schemes is Rs.100. It should be paid in cash to the Chief Superintendent of the examination centre. The filled-in applications should be accompanied by a computer printout of the mark or grade list of the March 2006 examination. The last date for remitting the fee is June 12. The hall tickets will be distributed on June 19 and 20.
