MALAPPURAM: The friends of documentary filmmaker C. Saratchandran commemorated him by organising a two-day programme titled Orma.

The function began on Saturday with Saratchandran's sister Neeraja Rajendran recalling the environmental interventions made by him. Film actor Ravindran, environmentalists C.R. Neelakandan and Mohankumar spoke about their friend who died in a train accident a few weeks ago.

Saratchandran's documentaries such as ‘Chaliyar Bakipathram', ‘Only an Axe Away', and ‘Ningalude Viswasthan John' were screened on the occasion. Discussions were held on all those films. Leaders of the Chaliyar struggle, including K.V. Hameed and P.K.M. Raghu, spoke about the role played by Saratchandran in lifting the Chaliyar struggle to a higher level.

Another session focussed on the role played by Saratchandran in giving a new meaning to film societies. He etched a place for himself by organising a documentary festival titled Nottam.

The Montage Movie Club of Manjeri also commemorated the filmmaker at a function on Saturday. Inaugurating the function, environmental activist Goutham Sarang said that Saratchandran's views reflected all documentaries he made.
