The government has given in principle approval for the Sanketam Housing Scheme for low income groups. The scheme, announced in the budget for the current year, proposes building of flats on lands belonging to local self-governments with loans from financial agencies and contribution by beneficiaries.

As per revised proposal on the scheme submitted by the Housing Board, Rs.2 lakh is to be provided as government subsidy and Rs.2 lakh is to be raised as loan upon the panchayats making the land available. The beneficiary should contribute Rs.1 lakh.
