Public places, schools, hospitals, anganwadis and market places are covered under the drive

Banners have been exhibited and notices distributed among public to sensitise them

Thrissur: Pre-monsoon sanitation drive launched to prevent outbreak of epidemics is progressing satisfactorily in the district, Collector V.K. Baby has claimed.

Special attention is being given to clean up clogged drains and water bodies to avoid water-logging during monsoon. Public places, schools, hospitals, anganwadis and market places are covered under the drive.

As mosquito-borne diseases such as dengue fever and chikungunya had wrecked havoc along the coastal belt of the district during last monsoon season, authorities have given special focus to control mosquitoes.

The Total Sanitation Mission has embarked on a massive cleanliness awareness campaign in association with local bodies, kudumbasree units, anganvadis and various voluntary organisations. Banners have been exhibited and notices distributed among public to sensitise them to the importance of keeping their environment clean and healthy.

Cultural processions, seminars and discussions have been held in educational institutions and public places.
