PALAKKAD: Minister for Electricity A.K. Balan has said that some diseases, which were eradicated from the State, were returning in new forms with more intensity.

Inaugurating the district-level monsoon related cleaning operations at the district hospital here on Friday, the Minister said that the Health Department and local bodies should be vigilant against such diseases.

He said the government had allotted required medical staff and fund for the efficient functioning of public health centres.

The monsoon cleaning programme in the Collectorate compound was inaugurated by District Collector M.C. Mohandas.

As part of the ‘Haritha Keralam’ programme Mr. Mohandas also planted saplings on the Collectorate premises. Government employees cleaned their offices as part of the programme.

One June 9, cleaning operations of educational institutions will be taken up in the district with the participation of people’s representatives, students, Parent Teachers Associations etc.
