Samakalika Sangeetham’s Sangeeth Vikas award, for kathakali exponent Kalamandalam Padmanabhan Nair for his work Cholliyattam , was received by Kalamandalam Sathyabhama on behalf of her late husband.

The award was presented by writer M.T. Vasudevan Nair.

The award comprise a painting by artist Francis Kodankandath, based on the concept of Padmanabhan Nair as an individual as well as an artiste, and cash award of Rs.10,001.

In his address, MT said it was long years of experience as a teacher and a lot of effort that enabled Padmanabhan Nair to pen a book such as Cholliyattam .

Cholliyattam , published by the Kerala Kalamandalam in 2000, is an authoritative work which serves as a guide for kathakali artistes.Felicitated

Ms. Sathyabhama, who had recently been awarded the Padmasree, was felicitated by secretary of the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi P.V. Krishnan Nair. Director of the Chavara Cultural Centre Fr.Jose Edapadiyil, artist Francis Kodankandath, and scholar C.Rajendran were present. The function was followed by a music concert by Sreevalsan J.Menon. Trustee of Samakalika Sangeetham A.D.Madhavan felicitated Mr.Menon on the occasion.
