ALAPPUZHA: Miscreants felled a sandalwood tree on the premises of the District Court and made away with nearly a six-foot billet of the wood on Wednesday night. The rest of the tree was found abandoned behind the Alappuzha Bar Association’s office, where the tree stood.

According to the police, the miscreants might have entered the court premises by scaling the compound wall after 10.30 p.m. and cut the tree using an electric saw. The billet that they stole could fetch over Rs.25,000 in the market.

The Alappuzha North Police have registered a case and are investigating.
