‘Sample Vedikettu’, the first round of fireworks during the Thrissur Pooram celebrations, will be held here on Friday.
The Thiruvambady side will begin the pyrotechnic show around 7 p.m.
Thousands of people are expected to gather at the Swaraj Round to witness the fireworks that promise to turn Thrissur’s skyline into a riot of colours. “Sample Vedkikettu” is considered an appetiser before the grand feast to be served on Pooram days.
Pyrotechnicians Mundathicode Satheesh and Kundannur Suresh are in charge of the display by Thiruvambady and Parmekkavu Devaswoms.
Elaborate security arrangements are in place. Policemen will be deployed in large numbers to control the crowd. There will be traffic restrictions in the city from 4 p.m. Sixteen surveillance cameras have been placed in strategic locations in the city. Around 40 temporary surveillance cameras have been placed in Thekkinkad Maidan. A team of police officers will monitor activities in the city 24x7. Movement of crowds inside the temples will also be monitored. Control Room Circle Inspector T. A.Yunis is in charge of the visual surveillance system.
Paramekkavu Devaswom will exhibit its elephant accoutrements ( chamayam ) at its agrasala from Friday. City Police Commissioner P. Prakash will inaugurate the exhibition at 3 p.m. Thiruvambady will display its stock at the Sri Sankara Hall on M.G. Road on Saturday. Cooperation Minister C.N. Balakrishnan will inaugurate the exhibition. Visitors will be allowed into the venues till midnight on Saturday.
