The Kerala Sahitya Akademi fellowships and awards for 2010 have been announced.

K. Sachidanandan and C. Radhakrishnan have been selected for the akademi fellowships, which carry a cash prize of Rs.50,000, a citation, a plaque and a two-sovereign gold medal each.

The academi's life-time achievement awards, which carry a cash prize of Rs.30,000, a certificate and a plaque each, go to Omcheri N.N. Pillai, S. Ramesan Nair, K. Gopalakrishnan, Malayathu Appunni, Sara Thomas and Joseph Mattam.

An akademi general council meeting here on Thursday decided the awards and fellowships.

The following are the awards in different categories — novel: Khadeeja Mumtaz ( Barsa); poetry: Mullanezhi ( Kavitha); drama: A. Santhakumar ( Maram Peyyunnu); short story: E.P. Sreekumar ( Parasya Sareeram); literary criticism: M.R. Chandrasekharan ( Malayalam Novel Innum Innaleyum); scholarly literature: T. Pradeep ( Kunju Kanangalkku Vasantham); biography and autobiography: P.K.R. Warrier ( Anubhavangal Anubhaavangal); travelogue: Muzaffar Ahmed ( Marubhoomiyude Atmakatha); translation: Ashalatha ( Aadinte Virunnu); children's literature: Sumangala ( Nadannu Theeratha Vazhikal); and humour: C.R. Omanakuttan ( Sreebhoothavilasam Nair Hotel).

The following are the endowment awards: I. C. Chacko Award (P. Sreekumar/ Adhwanam Bhasha Vimochanam); C.B. Kumar Award (Hameed Chendamangallur/ Oru Matha Nirapeskha Vadiyude Swathanthra Chinthakal); K.R. Namboodiri Award (P.V. Ramankutty/ Yajur Veda Sameeksha); Kanakasree Award (Surya Benoy/ Nizhalppura); Gita Hiranyan Award (Sushmesh Chandrothu/ Swarna Mahal); G.N. Pillai award (K. Babu Joseph/ Apekshikathayude Nooru Varshangal); and Kuttipuzha Award (N. M. Namboodiri/ Kakkadu: Kaviyum Kavithayum).

The awards and fellowships will be presented within a month, akademi president P. Valsala and secretary Purushan Kadalundi said.
