Sabarimala pilgrims wearing black dress will be allowed into the visitors’ gallery of the Assembly when the House is in session.

Speaker G.Karthikeyan said here on Sunday that directions had been issued to officials to permit the black-clad pilgrims to watch the proceedings from the gallery.

The direction was issued after K.Muraleedharan, MLA, drew the Speaker’s attention to the denial of permission for Sabarimala pilgrims to enter the Assembly hall during the last session.

Mr.Karthikeyan said people wearing ‘lungies’ were denied entry into the building. He explained that officials had mistaken the black dhotis for lungies.

In his letter, Mr.Muraleedharan had pointed out that denying pilgrims entry was an insult to the State’s cultural tradition.
