PATHANAMTHITTA: Tension prevailed in Pathanamthitta town on Thursday following an attack on a 20-year-old Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) worker, Shafique of Thaikkavu, by a group of motorbike-borne persons owing allegiance to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh the previous night.
According to the police, Shafique was reportedly attacked by some persons near the KSRTC bus station on Wednesday night and was admitted to Pathanamthitta General Hospital, later. It was alleged that the assailants had barged into Shafique’s house and threatened his family members, later.
DYFI workers staged a march in the town protesting against the attack on Wednesday night.
The protesters marched to the police station demanding arrest of the culprits behind the attack on the DYFI worker.
Meanwhile, workers of the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) staged a march in the town in the afternoon, protesting against the alleged destruction of a party flag by DYFI protesters.
In a statement, the BMS district committee sought action against municipal chairman Zakir Hussein and councillor Mundukottackal Surendran for destroying the BMS flag during the DYFI march in the town.
