Priority to education sector

: The meeting of the district panchayat council held here on Thursday unanimously approved the Rs.86.45-crore budget for 2012-13 presented by vice- president Subida Isahaq.

The first preference was given for the development of education considering the district's backwardness in the sector.

The budget earmarked funds for ensuring mid-day meal to all school students, infrastructure development, and for school furniture, computer education etc.

The second priority is given for the modernisation of agricultural sector, the district being an agricultural hub of the State. The budget has allocated funds for farm protection, development of paddy cultivation, coconut processing etc.

There are also funds allocated for setting up solid waste management plants.
