The threat from the Cherthala municipal chairperson, Jayalakshmi Anilkumar, and her councillors to resign had its effect as the government appointed district deputy district medical officer, C. O. Rajendrakumar as the new Superintendent of Cherthala Taluk Headquarters Hospital in lieu of the reinstated Dr. R. Remya. Dr. Remya’s transfer had kicked up a row forcing doctors to go on strike.
The reinstatement of Dr. Remya, who was transferred allegedly after differences with the Cherthala municipal chairperson, on Wednesday led to a resignation threat by the municipal chairperson and her party councillors. However, the chairperson denied the reports of resignation as ‘baseless news’.
The government’s move to allow Dr. Remya to continue as Superintendent till a new person takes charge saw the Kerala government Medical Officers' Association (KGMOA) withdrawing its indefinite stir.
