The tender process for repair of six city roads under the Urban Road Development Project will be completed by December, Minister for Social Welfare and Panchayats M.K. Muneer has said.

He told reporters here on Saturday that land acquisition for three roads — Stadium-Puthiyara Road, Karapparambu-Kalluthan Kadavu Road, and Kovur-Vellimadukunnu Road — had been completed, while land was being acquired for Gandhi-Road Mini Bypass Road, CWRDM-Panathuthazham Road, and Francis Road. Land would be acquired for the Mananchira-Vellimadukunnu Road only next year.

A total of 22 km of road would be ready for widening and repair by December. The road would be built on BOT basis, but no toll would be levied from the public, Mayor A.K. Premajam said.

All roads would abide by the standards prescribed by Indian Road Congress and the works would be completed in 18 months. The agency that took up the work would also have the responsibility to remove and replace the electric poles, electric lines and water pipe lines.

Managing Director of Roads and Bridges Corporation A.P. Muhammed Haneesh; District Collector K.V. Mohan Kumar; Chief Operating Officer of Road Fund Board Sudarshanan Pillai; and Chairman of Kerala Urban and Rural Development Finance Corporation K. Moideen Koya were present at the press meet.
