The network of roads in Thrikkakara constituency is set to get a facelift with administrative sanction being received for road works worth Rs.19 crore.

Addressing a press conference at Kakkanad on Friday, Benny Behanan, MLA, said that allocations had been received for five roads and a bridge.

Thrikkakara Temple Road has been allocated Rs.40 lakh, Vytilla-Palarivattom Road Rs.1.50 crore, Pazhanganad AP Varkey Road Rs.1 crore and Vytilla-Petta Road has been sanctioned Rs.93 lakh.

To ease traffic flow

The Palarivattom-Kakkanad Road has been allocated Rs.10 crore, while a proposed bridge at Thuthiyoor has been given Rs.5.16 crore.

Maximum utilisation

Mr. Behanan said that allocation for the Palarivattom-Kakkanad Road was significant as the road was congested, especially during peak hours. The funds allocated would be used to exploit the existing width of the road to the maximum.

He said that a bridge at Thuthiyoor would help to develop the undeveloped parts of Kakkanad. He said a proposal pursued by the district panchayat in the past for a similar bridge had to be dropped.

Mr. Behanan said that a meeting of officials concerned was held at the office of Kochi Metro Rail Corporation managing director Tom Jose to consider the State government's ambitious proposal to set up a ring road connecting the eastern parts of the city with the Vytilla mobility hub.

“The National Transportation Planning and Research Centre (NATPAC) has been entrusted with submitting a detailed project report about the feasibility of the project,” Mr. Behanan said.
