Thrissur: KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala has said that the alleged rift between the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and Communist Party of India is affecting the functioning of the Kerala Agricultural University.

He was addressing the celebrations to mark the silver jubilee of the Kerala Agricultural Workers' Association. “If KAU should function well, the CPI(M)-led Finance Ministry and the CPI-governed Agriculture Ministry should work in tandem. As the CPI and CPI(M) do not see eye to eye, the KAU is heading for a crisis. For the same reason, the food security project could not be implemented well,” he said.

He called for time-bound filling of vacant posts in KAU. “The LDF government's attitude towards agriculture can be seen in their callous approach to filling of posts. KAU should not be a white elephant. The complaint is that farmers are not benefitting from research carried out at KAU.” The LDF government had also failed in solving the financial crisis in KAU.

Earlier, Mr. Chennithala told reporters that the State budget for 2010-11 had offered nothing for comprehensive development of the agriculture sector.
