Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State unit general secretary K. Surendran has demanded the resignation of Forest Minister K.B. Ganesh Kumar and Tourism Minister A.P. Anil Kumar for undertaking a boat journey in Thekkady Lake on Monday night violating the provisions of the Kerala Inland Vessels Act.

Addressing a news conference here on Saturday, Mr. Surendran said that Chief Minister Oommen Chandy should oust both the Ministers from the Cabinet if they refused to put in their papers.

‘No licence’

A criminal case should be slapped on them for undertaking a boat ride after 6 p.m. Both of them had no valid licences too, he said.

The BJP leader said the Ministers had also violated the oath of office. The rules applied equally to all. The comment of Mr. Ganesh Kumar that he was above restriction was challenging the rule of law and an insult to the Constitution.

The Ministers should also clarify if they had undertaken the trip for official purpose. The police should also investigation whether a third boat had operated in the lake at that time, Mr. Surendran said.
