The Integrated Tribal Development project officer on Tuesday submitted a project report to the government on constructing 2,000 houses for the tribal people in Attappady as part of a package announced by Union Minister for Rural Development Jairam Ramesh during his visit there on June 6.

Project officer P.V. Radhakrishnan said the houses would be constructed under the Indira Awaz Yojana. He said the construction would be entrusted to the Ooru Vikasana Samithy (Hamlet Development Council). He also recommended that the government hike the cost of construction from Rs.2.5 lakh to Rs.5 lakh a unit.
