The Kottayam District Congress Committee (DCC) has criticised Government Chief Whip P.C. George’s alleged tirade against Chief Minister Oommen Chandy in the solar scam.

Speaking to mediapersons here on Wednesday, DCC president Tomy Kallani demanded that Mr. George be removed from the post. According to him,

Mr. George was elected to the Assembly in the last elections with the backing of Mr. Chandy and his supporters in the constituency. Mr. George could not stake claim to any achievements of the United Democratic Front (UDF) government.

Instead of striving for the success of the coalition, Mr. George has always attempted to malign constituent parties of the ruling front and their leaders.

Through his actions, Mr. George has proved that he is unfit to remain in the respectable position of Government Chief Whip, Mr. Kallani added.

In a related development, the Congress committee in the Poonjar constituency adopted a resolution demanding Mr. George’s resignation from the Assembly and challenged him to contest the election from the constituency again.

Activists of the Kerala Students Union (KSU) took out demonstrations in various parts of the district demanding Mr. George’s ouster.
