The Kerala office of World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF-India) will observe the birth anniversary of India's birdman Salim Ali with a series of programmes, including lecture, photography competition and exhibition exclusively on birds, in the capital.

The awareness programme will be held at Museum Auditorium here on November 12 in association with Kerala State Biodiversity Board (KSBB) and Directorate of Museums and Zoos. V. S. Vjayan, disciple of Dr. Ali and former Chairman of KSBB will deliver the remembrance talk. R. V. Varma, Chairman of KSBB will inaugurate the programme and Udayavarman, Director of Museums and Zoo, will preside. Renjan Mathew Varghese, State Director, WWF-India and Usha Balaraman, Coordinator, KSBB, will attend. Raju. S, Research Associate of Salim Ali Bird Survey Team will deliver a talk titled ‘On the trail of Dr. Salim Ali' and A. K. Sivakumar of WWF-India will present the topic ‘Urban Birds of Kerala'.

The photography competition and exhibition exclusively on birds of Kerala will be held from November 12 to 14 at Museum Auditorium. It is being organised by the WWF-India, HSBC and Directorate of Museums and Zoos.

The annual event to popularise bird watching will be held on November 14 at places in and around Thiruvananthapuram. Enthusiasts can watch birds from dawn to dusk under the guidance of a bird expert. They will assemble at Hotel Pankaj with their observations and findings in the evening. The team sighting the maximum number of birds and the eldest and youngest birdwatchers will be given awards.
