Thiruvananthapuram: The World Blood Donation Day celebrations being organised in the city by Terumo Penpol, State NSS Cell and Club 25 on June 14 will be marked by a function to honour repeat regular donors.

The global theme for the 2010 World Blood Donor Day is ‘‘New blood for the world.'' It hopes that a new generation of idealistic and motivated voluntary unpaid blood donors will form a pool that provides the safest blood possible for use wherever and whenever it is needed to save life.

At the function to be held here, Terumo Penpol will reward individuals, who have made remarkable contributions to voluntary blood donation. The criterion for the best male donor award of 2010 will be a maximum of four donations in 2009 while that for the best female donor award will be a maximum of three donations. The criterion for other donor award will be a minimum of 10 donations in the past five years.

The function will be held at the Vylopilly Samskrithi Bhavan, Nanthencode. Educational Institutions, offices or NGOs are directed to send the list of donors who had donated two or more than two times in the year 2009 to the organisers.
