In the wake of the attack on a couple by alleged migrants at Mallappally on Sunday, Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan has said that registration will soon be made mandatory for migrant workers in the State.

Speaking to mediapersons after visiting the injured Joy Joseph at a private hospital at Chettipuzha, near Changanassery, Mr. Radhakrishnan said there were only about 70,000 migrant workers in the State as per records. However, a large number of workers are residing in the State. ‘‘We have received information that persons hailing from Bangladesh have been arriving along with workers from North-East India.’’ The government is committed to ensuring the protection of those with proper identification documents.At the same time, stringent action will be initiated against those who are found guilty of committing crimes, he added.
