THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Record sales were witnessed in the payasamelas organised by the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation Hotels and Resorts in the major cities in the State in connection with Onam.

Chairman of the State-owned corporation Cheriyan Philip said that the sale of payasams through the counters set up in various hotels of the KTDC across the state touched Rs.40 lakh.

Hotel Chaithram in Thiruvananthapuram topped the list by selling payasams to the tune of Rs.7.5 lakh followed by Malabar Mansion, Kozhikode, (Rs.4 lakh) and Aram, Kayankulam (Rs.2.25 lakh).

Among the 10 payasams that were on offer, the highest demand was for the ‘Navarasa payasam’ which contained the juice of nine fruits, followed by the Amabalpuzha palpayasam. The KTDC chairman said thousands attended the traditional ‘Onasadya’ served in the hotels on Thiruvonam day.
