KOCHI: A reception was accorded to the former MP P.C. Thomas by the Farmers' Organisations Front here recently to congratulate him on having secured a favourable court verdict pertaining to rubber plantations.

Mr. Thomas had appealed against an earlier verdict of the court which declared that rubber plantations did not come under the category of agricultural land.

The issue was of much concern to farmers whose rubber plantations were pledged as security for bank loans since non-agricultural land could be subjected to recovery proceedings. The new verdict was of immense help to many farmers, organisation general secretary Jose Chemberi said.

Mr. Thomas, in his speech, said that he would strive to ensure justice for farmers affected by the action of banks in response to the earlier verdict.
