A skywalk could

do wonders

The bus stop in front of the BEM high school at Mananchira serves 11 schools in its vicinity.

Apart from the schools,

there is a steady flow of pedestrians all the time.

But crossing the road is a nightmare since vehicles from Wayanad Road as well as from Kannur Road move on the road at full speed.

Though the pedestrian crossing earmarked here is governed by warning

lights round the clock,

people have to wait for a chance to cross the road because of the steady flow

of vehicles.

It is guarded by traffic

police with the help of student cadets just before the school starts and for some time after the

schools hours.

A similar situation is there

at the Head Post Office-Town hall Road junction.

This scenario stresses

the need to have a skywalk connecting HPO premises with State Bank Bus Halt

and BEM HSS bus

waiting shelter.

Authorities should

consider providing ramps instead of steps to make it accessible for the

physically challenged also.

Need for a Pottekkat statue-park

The birth centenary celebrations of

Malayalam travel writer

S.K. Pottekkat, organised by

the S.K. Pottekkat Cultural Centre, Puthiyara,

and Kerala Sahithya Akademi, concluded here on March 14.

But it was really disappointing to note that a proposal to establish a statue-park that features characters from

S.K. Pottekkat’s novels and travelogues did not materialise during the celebrations.

Such a theme park would have served to ignite enthusiasm among the younger generation

to try and know more about the writer and his literary

works. The president of the

S.K. Pottekkat Cultural Centre should make an earnest attempt to make the theme park proposal a reality.
