The district administration has fixed rates for the land to be acquired for the development of the Kottayam-Kumarakom road.

According to an official release, land plots belonging to 962 persons and spread over six villages will be acquired for the project. While the land rates were previously for all areas except Kumarakom, rates for those located within Kumarakom village were finalised at a meeting of the District-level Land Purchase Committee (DLPC) that was convened by District Collector Mini Antony on Wednesday. Plots belonging to 194 persons in Kumarakom village will be acquired for Rs.3.8 lakh per cent. Landholders have been given a week to provide consent papers for accepting the rates set by the DLPC. The properties of those submitting the consent papers will be acquired on fast-track basis.
