: The former Union Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader O. Rajagopal said here on Friday that a second Land Reforms Act should be enacted to provide land to all landless people belonging to Dalits and other marginalised sections of society.

Mr. Rajagopal was speaking after inaugurating a State meet of the Kerala Pulayar Maha Sabha. The future politics would be that of land and the ongoing campaign of the Government in Kerala was for the land lobby, he alleged.

Mr Rajagopal alleged that the State government could not retrieve the thousands of acres of land leased out to private parties. The plots allotted to the poor landless people agitating at Chengara were not fit for human habitation and the government’s proclamation that it stood for the welfare of the poor and the downtrodden sections was part of apolitical gimmick, he alleged.

The BJP leader alleged that neither the previous United Democratic Front government led by A.K. Antony nor the previous Left Democratic Front government could provide habitable and cultivable land to the landless poor in the State. T.V.Babu, KPMS State president, presided. Chittayam Gopakumar, and K.Sivadasan Nair, both MLAs, spoke.

A massive rally was also held as a prelude to the public meeting.

“The future politics would be that of land and the campaign of the government was for the land lobby.”
