Says Government has allotted an emergency fund of Rs.30 lakhs for the district

PATHANAMTHITTA: Transport Minister Mathew T. Thomas has said that the Government has already allotted an emergency fund of Rs.30 lakhs for Pathanamthitta to extend relief to the families affected in the recent natural calamity in different parts of the district.

The Minister has chaired a meeting of the people's representatives in the district at the District Panchayat hall here on Saturday to review the relief works being under taken in different parts of the district during the past week.

Talking to reporters, he said that a total of Rs.13.5 lakhs has given to five taluks and more fund will be made available after assessing the situation.

Mr. Thomas has said that the meeting has decided to constitute natural calamity relief committees at Assembly segment level in the district to assess the loss and review the situation in the next two days.

The concerned MLA will chair the committees with the respective Tahsildar as its convener. He said that a total of five relief camps were opened in the district and all were in Thiruvalla taluk.

K.Sivadasan Nair, Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, Joseph M. Puthusserry, Raju Abraham, K.C. Rajagopalan, K.K. Shaju, all MLAs, district panchayat president Appinazhakathu Santhakumari, vice-president A.P.Jayan and District Collector B. Ashok were among those who attended the meeting.

The Minister, accompanied by the Collector, visited various relief camps in Thiruvalla taluk later in the afternoon.
