PWD has promised repair: Kannur Municipal Chairperson
The worn-out roads in various parts of the town, barely two months after repairs, point to the reckless attitude and sluggishness of the municipality and the Public Works Department (PWD).
The stretch on the underpass near the municipal bus stand is the worst. Plying through this area has become a nightmare for motorists. The road, which had been closed for nearly two months for repairs by the PWD, is full of potholes, posing a great threat to two-wheeler riders and causing traffic blocks throughout the day.
Many pocket roads within the municipal limits are awaiting the attention of the authorities. Municipal Chairperson Roshni Khalid says the matter has been brought to the attention of the PWD, which has promised repairs after the monsoon.
The bad roads include the stretch near the Prabhat junction, Town Police Station and Ashirwad Hospital, and these will be repaired after the rains, she says. The Bus Operators’ Coordination Committee has conveyed its decision to call off services if the roads were not to be improved. Works are delayed during summer, citing a lack of funds and other technical reasons, and then done in a shoddy manner that they wear out in little time, the committee members say.
