Thrissur: P.C. Chacko, MP, on Wednesday has said that his immediate priority is the development of Thrissur railway station.

He was addressing a ‘meet-the-press’ at the Thrissur Press Club on Wednesday.

He said that steps would be taken to solve problems faced by passengers at the ticket counter.

“People have to wait for long to get tickets. For all the five counters to operate, the station needs 24 clerks. Currently, it has only 20. I will hold talks with the Railway Divisional Manager on Thursday to deploy additional staff. I hope the problem can be solved within a month. Touch-screens in the station are out of order,” he said.

He said long-term development plans of the Thrissur railway station would include an additional platform, more terminal buildings, an entrance at the west-end with extensive passenger amenities, an eight-counter additional reservation centre, an additional line from Thrissur to Guruvayur and expansion of the Punkunnam station.

New roads

He said he would hold talks with the National Highway Authority and the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission to channel funds for improving the condition of roads and constructing new roads in Thrissur.
