The abrupt failure of the engine of the 12601 Chennai-Mangalore while it was passing through a level crossing near here on Wednesday disrupted rail and vehicular traffic for a while. The incident occurred around 11.30 a.m. as the superfast mail got stranded midway while passing through a level-crossing at Kushal Nagar, south of Kanhangad railway station forcing the vehicles on either sides to stop for nearly 90 minutes. The train proceeded towards Mangalore after an engine reached here from nearby Nileshwar station, sources here said. Due to the snag, the 22610 Coimbatore-Mangalore intercity super fast express also got delayed for some time.
