THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government has decided to overhaul the tender system in the Public Works Department to eliminate corruption and to improve efficiency, Public Works Minister Mons Joseph told the Assembly on Friday.

Responding to a calling attention motion from Thomas Chandy (Independent), the Minister said the government would also go in for preparation of a short list of contractors of proven efficiency so that preference could be given to them when awarding contracts in future. Mr. Joseph said the government had already decided to hike the cost of tender applications which earlier ranged between Rs.50 and Rs.1,500.
