The district Health authorities has cautioned the public about the possibility of an outbreak of waterborne diseases.

District Medical Officer Neeta Vijayan said in release here that people should be vigilant against waterborne diseases such as jaundice, diarrhoea, and typhoid in the wake of recent reports of such diseases in the district.

Houses and premises should be kept clean to tackle such diseases, she said. People were asked to observe personal hygiene and drink only boiled water.

Defecation in public places, especially on the banks of rivers, should be avoided as such diseases spread mainly through waterbodies. Water sources should be disinfected to keep diseases at bay, she said.

Jaundice, diarrhoea, and typhoid have been reported in Wayanad.
